As long as your using a mac, the best way to use an external drive is to format it as hfs+ on GUID. The version seagate included with the freeagent goflex drives is likely outdated by now and incompatible with el crapitan. This is a piece of software that allows you to read and write windows formatted drives on your mac, or vice versa. The first thing you can do is install/upgrade paragon. I had to downgrade back to yosemite due to plugin issues, but I did have it working in El crapitan.ġ. If your still having issues, I have a freeagent goflex drive and have it working fine.
